David Whitehill
Executive Director, Asheville Symphony
David Whitehill was appointed Executive Director of the Asheville Symphony in October 2012. Whitehill has overseen the implementation of several signature Asheville Symphony programs. Among those programs are Asheville Amadeus, a biennial festival celebrating the immense creativity within the Asheville community — including music, dance, food, beer, art, theatre and more – with headlining artists including Emanuel Ax, Midori, Garrick Ohlsson, and Warren Haynes; and IDEASOUND, the Asheville Symphony’s recording initiatives that have included projects with Grammy Award winning artists Steep Canyon Rangers, Boyz ll Men, and Secret Agent 23 Skidoo. Prior to his appointment in Asheville, Whitehill was Executive Director of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra in Maine. While in Maine he was honored by the Portland Press Herald as one of the 40 top “Young Business and Community Leaders” in the state. Whitehill also worked in Orange County, Calif., as an arts administrator with the Pacific Symphony, Laguna Beach Music Festival, and the Philharmonic Society, where he presented distinguished orchestras including the London, Israel, Warsaw, and New York philharmonic orchestras. Whitehill has worked with Woody Allen, Drummers of Burundi, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Linda Ronstadt. Whitehill currently serves on the League of American Orchestras Board of Directors representing Group 5/6 Managers and on the Board of Directors of Asheville Music Professionals and MusicWorks Asheville.
Whitehill is married to Jessica Whitehill, Executive Director of Jewish Family Services of Western North Carolina. Their daughter Sadie is a budding violinist.
