Geary Yelton
Synthesist
Based in Asheville, Synth and Software executive editor Geary Yelton has 40 years of experience writing about music technology with a focus on electronic instruments and software. Since 1985, he has written hundreds of articles for the magazine Electronic Musician, where he served 10 years as associate and then senior editor and more recently as editor at large. He authored and edited numerous books, including The Rock Synthesizer Manual and Music and the Macintosh. He’s also written for the magazines Keyboard, Mix, Drum!, and others, as well as for the websites Gearwire and Audiofanzine and for legendary companies like Opcode Systems, Avid Technology, Universal Audio, and Moog Music. As a synthesist, he’s been performing, designing sounds, and working in recording facilities since the mid-1970s, including several years producing music for television and running the synth suites in three major Atlanta studios.
