Asheville-centered bassist Ryan Crabtree began playing bass at the age of twelve. Since graduating with his Bachelors in Music Education in 2013, Ryan has traveled, recorded, and co-written with a multitude of artists across the southeast region and continues to maintain a full-time performance career. Releasing music under the alias Flat13, Ryan uses the bass as a melodic tool to push the envelope of both the instrument and the growing genre of “gamer jazz.” Sticking to his drum and bass roots while being heavily influenced by artists such as Squarepusher, and two of his post-graduate teachers (Evan Marien and Bubby Lewis), the music stylings of Ryan Crabtree (Flat13) continues to push the bass into the 21st century with an array of modern techniques, unique sounds, and a vast chordal and textural vocabulary.
In addition to his solo work, Ryan continues to a side-man musician for an array of artists across varying genres. He is also the MD of the Jubilee Community Church in West Asheville.
Available for electric and/or upright bass needs.
